Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda are two of the most recognizable women in the world. They're both queens of the silver screen and equally influential in the realms of beauty and fashion. (Mirren, for one, made headlines recently for helping to spark an important societal dialogue against the term "anti-aging").
We, like most everyone else on the planet, think that their beauty, talent, success, and confidence are super inspiring and worthy of praise, and their most recent project is no different-and it kind of blew our minds. As InStyle reported, the two women, who are 72 and 79, respectively, walked the L'OrГ©al runway at Paris Fashion Week, helping to create an entirely positive, inclusive, and representational fashion show that was the first of its kind on many levels.Getty/Kristy Sparow
Let's talk about Helen Mirren first because why not? For the first-ever L'OrГ©al runway show, Mirren strutted out on the catwalk with fresh skin, ink-lined eyes, and a bold cherry lip (which, by the way, looks a lot like the L'OrГ©al Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in British Red, $6). Before we continue any further, we have to say it: She looked absolutely stunning. Seeing her confidently and happily walking the runway with one hand in her pocket and the other swinging a cane behind her (in an incredibly chic manner, might we add) was nothing short of envy-inducing.
It bears repeating that this show was the first of its kind. Usually, brands like L'OrГ©al are backstage at other fashion shows, but this year, the team decided to plan its own event in an ode to Paris, taking place on the historic Champs-Г‰lysГ©es (which was actually completely shut down for the event). L'OrГ©al Global Director Val Garland was in charge of the skin and makeup while other French designers (like Balmain and Isabel Marant) provided the clothes.Getty/Kristy Sparow
Next was the legendary Jane Fonda. The fitness, fashion, and beauty maven looked incredible in rosy brown lip and blush along with smudgy lined eyes, just one of the 70 total beauty looks created by Garland and her team specifically for the show.В
Other models on the runway includedВ catwalk veterans like Irina Shayk, Maria Borges, and Doutzen Kroes, and new momВ and Brit pop star Cheryl also made an appearance. Because of the diverse group of celebs and beauty looks, we think the show accomplished its end goal, which was bringing "beauty for everyone." And seeing models like Mirren and Fonda walk the runway reminds us that aging is something to be celebrated, not feared. After all, it's just a number.В
